PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate retrieval for an inputted sentence even in the case of input of the sentence including ambiguous information and to generate and output a sentence which is not incompatible with the sentence inputted by a user. SOLUTION: A CPU refers to a word information table stored in a word information table ROM to perform retrieval with an input word as the key (step S3). The CPU refers to a chaining rule table stored in a chaining rule table ROM to retrieve a chain pattern about 'the classification' of the input word (step S4) and updates a first reference date in accordance with a corresponding interpretation rule (step S5).
