PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent combustion without generating combustion noises, NOx or soot. SOLUTION: In this internal combustion engine, a fuel injection valve 6 is disposed in the central part of an inner wall surface of a linder head. An intake valve 7 and exhaust valve 9 are disposed in the periphery of the inner wall surface of the cylinder head such that their axis, as extending upward, incline outward from an axis of the cylinder. At the latter half of a compression stroke, fuel S1 is injected from a first injection port with a small diameter toward the front surface of a valve body opposing a combustion room 5 of the intake valve 7 and exhaust valve 9. Further, fuel 32 is injected from a second injection port with a large diameter toward inside a cavity 11.
