PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a latex composition which is used for coating paper and simultaneously satisfies high print gloss and an excellent ink setting property. SOLUTION: A copolymer latex composition for coating paper comprises (A) a copolymer latex and (B) a copolymer latex in an (A)/(B) weight ratio of 10/90 to 90/10. The copolymer latex A comprises the emulsion polymerization product of (a) 15 to 60 wt.% of an aliphatic diolefinic monomer, (b) 0.5 to 8 wt.% of an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, (c) 10 to 50 wt.% of an aromatic vinyl-based monomer, and (d) 0 to 20 wt.% of one or more other monomers capable of being copolymerized with the monomers, and has a swelling index of >=1.3 in kerosene oil. The copolymer latex B comprises the emulsion polymerization product of (a) 15 to 60 wt.% of an aliphatic diolefinic monomer, (b) 0.5 to 8 wt.% of an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, (c) 10 to 50 wt.% of an aromatic vinyl-based monomer, (e) 3 to 40 wt.% of a vinyl cyanide-based monomer, and (d) 0 to 20 wt.% of one or more other monomers capable of being copolymerized with the monomers, and has a swelling index of <1.3 in kerosene oil.
