PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress enlargement of compression as a whole by preventing deterioration of a performance of a device. SOLUTION: One line of image data copied to one of line buffers 105-107 is written into a line buffer except a line buffer to which compressed or pre- compressed one line of image data is written. When a size of the compressed data exceeds a data size before the compressing, 'non-compressed' is set in the line buffer having the compressed data written therein and a part of a line buffer flag having the pre-compressed image data. When it does not, 'compressed' is set therein. When 'compressed' is set in each part of the line buffer flag, the data is transferred to a main memory 101 from the compressed data storing line buffer through a selector 102. When 'non-compressed' is set, the data is transferred to the main memory 101 from the pre-compressed image data storing line buffer through the selector 102.
