PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ballpoint pen which can be used even if the pen point thereof is directed upward. SOLUTION: A compression chamber 14 having an elastic outer wall 15 is provided at a grip portion of a barrel 12 of the ballpoint pen, which barrel 12 has a rear end for insertion of a reservoir tube 22, which has an open end and contains therein ink 23, an air hole 13 being provided in the rear end of the barrel 12. At the rear end adjacent the air hole 13, a plate-shaped valve body 18 which is supported on a hinge pin axis 19 so as to be pivotal between an air hole closed position and an air hole opened position, wherein the valve body 18 contacts a stopper 21, a linear spring 20 being connected to the valve body 18 to always urge the valve body 18 toward the air hole opened position. By applying gripping forces to the outer wall 15 of the barrel 12 to compress the chamber 14, the interior of the barrel 12 is pressurized and the valve body 18 is moved to the air hole closed position, whereupon pressure is applied on the rear end of the ink 23 in the tube 22, so that the ink 23 is pressed toward a pen point. |
