PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and equipment for economically treating petroleum in the facilities which are simplified by eliminating compressors, a hydrogen sulfide-removing apparatus and their peripheral installations with the use of hydrogen in circulation between a step of collectively hydrotreating an atmospheric distillation distillate and a step of hydrotreating a vacuum gas oil. SOLUTION: A petroleum treatment method comprises (A) an atmospheric distillation step of separating crude oil into atmospheric distillation distillate and atmospheric distillation residual oil, (B) a vacuum distillation step of separating the atmospheric distillation residual oil into vacuum gas oil distillate and vacuum distillation residual oil by vacuum distillation, (C) a step of collectively hydrotreating the atmospheric distillation distillate, and (D) a vacuum gas oil hydrotreating step, and introducing the gas having hydrogen as the major component in the hydrotreated products in step (C) into step (D) and introducing the gas having hydrogen as the major component in the hydrotreated products in step (D) into step (C).
