PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent misalignment of a wire net by partially increasing occupying density of the wire net in a space surrounded by a catalytic carrier and a casing in a catalytic converter having the wire net disposed between the catalytic carrier and the casing. SOLUTION: A catalytic converter 1 as an exhaust emission control system for automobile has a monolithic catalytic carrier 2 which is supported by a casing 3 by means of an alumina mat 4 and a wire net 5. In this catalytic converter 1, a casing drawing portion where an inside diameter of the casing 3 which abuts to the wire net 5 in downstream of exhaust gas flow is narrowed down so that it is smaller than an inside diameter of a main body portion accommodating the monolithic catalytic carrier 2 is provided. Consequently, occupying density of the wire net 5 in a space surrounded by the casing drawing portion and the monolithic catalytic carrier 2 is increased, and the wire net 5 can be securely held by the casing drawing portion and the monolithic catalytic carrier 2.
