PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel having a centrifugal brake for not braking a fishing line spool during an initial acceleration stage and braking the spool during the following deceleration stage. SOLUTION: This fishing reel is equipped with a frame body 1, a fishing line spool 2 rotatably installed in the frame body 1 and a brake disk 14 coaxial with the spool 2 and nonrotatably connected to the frame body 1. Friction brake means 4-13 which brake the spool 2 in cooperation with the brake disk 14 are connected to the spool 2. The brake means 4-13 have a holder 4. Brake arms 7 support brake elements 13 at one end, connected to the holder 4 in a rotatable state around revolving shafts essentially vertical to the shaft of the spool 2 at the other end and rotated between a braking position in which the brake elements 13 are engaged with the brake disk 14 and an off position in which the brake elements 13 are separated from the brake disk 14.
