PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphor capable of coming to a substitute for a sulfide phosphor. SOLUTION: A phosphor is constituted by incorporating Pr into a composite oxide SrIn2O4 of Sr and In and accordingly, upon excitation of SrIn2O4 by an electron beam, by the excitation energy Pr is allowed to emit an emission color corresponding to the energy level, for example, a red color with a wavelength of about 610 nm. In addition, since the lattice defect present therein can be reduced by, for example, allowing Al present in the phosphor to form a solid-solution with SrIn2O4, the emission intensity is further enhanced. Since this causes deterioration of the cathode, the present phosphor does not contain S which remarkably reduces the life of a display tube and can obtain a luminance at a chromaticity equal to that of a similar red color emission phosphor of a (Zn, Cd)S:Ag, Cl phosphor in spite of a non-sulfide phosphor (oxide phosphor) free of harmful Cd.
