PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent problems such as frictional heat and abrasion powder from generating due to intervention of a resin and soft material in a cup bearing by providing a step so as not to form a contact between a needle and a joint cross end in the cup inside bottom. SOLUTION: A needle 2 has its end face set to a hemispherical face or a flat face, and either has or does not have a crowning in the transfer face in the outer circumferential part. A cup is referred to as a bearing cup 1 and either has or does not have a crowning in the transfer face of the internal circumferential part. Seal 4 is press fitted in the cup 1. A thrust load bearing face 9 of a joint cross is provided in a part lower than a thrust load bearing face 8 of the needle in the cup inside bottom. As a result, there is no contact between the needle and the joint cross end formed in the cup inside bottom. This constitution can avoid the edge effect of a universal joint and reduce the number of components of the cup bearing.
