PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester fiber, good in fiber properties and high in productivity during the spinning process, and also to provide a method for producing the same at high productivity, without causing troubles, e.g. yarn cutting in the yarn-making process which involves spinning of the above fiber. SOLUTION: This polyester fiber is composed of a polyester incorporated with an incompatible polymer having 20 to 1,000 times higher rigidity at 200 to 250 deg.C than the polyester at 0.01 to 10 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the polyester. This method for producing the fibers by melt spinning polyester incorporates the polyester with an incompatible polymer having 20 to 1,000 times higher rigidity at 200 to 250 deg.C than the polyester while or after the polyester is formed.
