PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a converter type refining furnace, in which the stable and good durability till the end stage of the furnace is preserved by restraining the stickiness of skull to the inclined part of the converter type refining furnace and executing the fall-out of a brick. SOLUTION: In the converter type refining furnace lined with a refractory containing carbon, a non-carbon-containing refractory is lined at one or more positions of the carbon-containing refractory. Further, the non-carbon-containing refractory is lined to the skull sticking portion at the inclined part driving side and/or the straight barrel part driving side. Further, the non-carbon- containing refractory is composed of a brick shape or a pre-cast block, and the non-carbon-containing refractory is a monolithic refractory.
