PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin composition for a coating having excellent adhesivity, weather resistance, chemical resistance and hardness. SOLUTION: This resin composition for a coating is constituted of a homopolymer or a copolymer (A) of a polymerizable monomer of the formula (R1 is H or a methyl group; R2 is a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a cycloalkyloxycarbonyl group or the like; X is a connecting group constituted of an ester bond or an amide bond; ring Z is a polycyclic alicyclic tank ring; n is an integer of >=1) and a cross-linking agent (B). The polymer may be a copolymer of the polymerizable monomer of the formula and a copolymerizable monomer. The cross-linking agent (B) may be an amino resin, an epoxy resin, a polyisocyanate, a polyfunctional carboxylic acid or its anhydride.
