PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing in a short time a polyester resin composition excellent in mechanical characteristics, a deflection temperature under load, surface appearances and dimensional stability. SOLUTION: There is provided a method for preparing a polyester resin composition comprising a thermoplastic polyester resin and an interlaminar compound, which method comprises a step (A) for preparing an interlaminar compound-water dispersion by mixing a swellable silicate salt with an onium salt in a dispersion medium containing water and a step (B) for mixing a thermoplastic polyester resin and/or a polymerizable prepolymer of a thermoplastic polyester resin with the above interlaminar-water dispersion.
