PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent sticking of a stain to a document reading part by providing a cleaning member for cleaning an image surface of a document to be carried in contact with the image surface on the document carrier direction upstream side from the document reading part. SOLUTION: Each of a document take-in roller 4, a document feed roller 7 and two carrier rollers 9, 11 is driven and rotated counterclockwise. Each of a document separating roller 8 and two press contact rollers 10, 12 which make pairs of each of these rollers 4, 7, 9 and 11 is driven and rotated clockwise. A lowermost document D on a document platen 1 is carried, and when the document D passes in contact with an upper surface of a document reading sensor 13, that is, a document reading part 14, images formed on an image surface of the document D are read. In this case, a cleaning roller 15 A to be a cleaning member 15 for cleaning the image surface of the document D to be carried in contact with the image surface is provided on a document carrier direction upstream side part from the document reading part 14. As a result, the image surface is efficiently cleaned without damaging the image surface.
