PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unnecessary jam backup processing by an arrangement wherein any one of a sheet jam backup processing for forming the image data subjected to jamming again after sheet jam is removed or a processing for stopping the jam backup processing of a page subjected to jamming can be selected. SOLUTION: When sheet jam is removed by a user, a CPU 1 displays a message on an operating panel 6 so that the user selects to start or stop the jam backup processing of a page subjected to sheet jam. When the user designates to start jam backup processing on the operating panel 6, jam backup processing is started for the page subjected to sheet jam. When the user designates to stop jam backup processing, jam backup processing is not carried out for the page subjected to sheet jam and processing of the image data on next page is started.
