PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the function of facility by providing a weir bank upstream of a groove having a specified structure and being formed at the bed of river, and forming an opening communicated with a river water take-in port at a specified part of the bank. SOLUTION: River cleaning facility 10 is constructed of a groove formed by excavating a river bed 23 and a weir bank 30 provided upstream thereof. The bank 30 has a section of streamline shape and is provided with an opening 33 communicated with a river water take-in port 22. The opening 33 is formed with such a size as to prevent mud or the like sunk on the bed 23 from flowing therein. An earth/sand reserving chamber 11, a contact material filled chamber 20 and a chamber 18 in front of discharge port are defined in the groove 27, while a partitioning weir bank 13 is provided between the chambers 11, 20 so as to sink and deposit mud 12 or the like, and contact material 15 is filled in the chamber 20. River water led in the chamber 11 through the opening 33 is cleaned with the contact material 15 after earth and sand are separated, and discharged from a discharge port 18a. Accordingly, cleaning efficiency is remarkably improved, and since river water at flood is passed above a take-in port, its flowing in to the groove can be restrained.
