PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a nonwoven fabric that has edges with reduced bulkiness, given an easy-to-handle wound roll having film side faces hardly causing telescoping by compressing the edge portion after slitting off the selvages and wind the fabric into the roll. SOLUTION: This nonwoven fabric is obtained by slitting the selvages, by compressing the edges of the nonwoven fabric e.g. with calender rolls and by winding it. The amount of the compression preferably is >=50% original thickness, and the nonwoven fabric has a thickness of >=0.5 mm (preferably >=1.0 mm) and a basis weight of >=50 g/m2 (preferably >=100 g/m2), is a needle punched nonwoven fabric and preferably is made of polyethylene terephthalate fibers.
