PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as an analytical standard material used for qualitative and quantitative analyses of styrene oligomers contained in a polystyrene. SOLUTION: This standard material is a compound of formula I. The compound of the formula I is obtained by usually reducing a compound of formula II obtained by using 3,3-diphenylpropanol as a starting material and passing through various reactions, by a catalytic hydrogenation reaction in a solvent such as hexane, in the presence of a catalyst such as Pd/C, etc., at preferably a room temperature for 1-10 hr to obtain 1-phenyl-4-(2-phenylethyl)tetralin, and separating the stereo isomer of it by a high speed liquid chromatography, etc. |
