PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerization process capable of suppressing the unreacted matter remaining in a ring-opened polymer of a cycloolefin to the utmost, and enabling the improvement of mechanical properties, the improvement of heat stability and the reduction of unpleasant odor. SOLUTION: This polymerization process comprises the step A in which a polymerizing composition comprising a cycloolefin which can perform metathesis polymerization and a metathesis polymerization catalyst is kept at a specific temperature (e.g. room temperature) for a specific time (e.g. 30-90 min), the step B in which polymerization is performed at a specific heating rate (e.g. 2 deg.C/min or less) and optionally the step C in which the polymerization product is further kept at a specific temperature (e.g. 80-140 deg.C) for a specific time after the step B.
