PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a luggage room independently of a vehicle compartment at the rear of the vehicle, facilitate the operation of moving or transferring a wheelchair or other luggage into the vehicle, and achieve both formation of the luggage room and ease of the transfer operation by means of a simple arrangement and a small number of part items. SOLUTION: This rear body construction has a rear bumper 7 placed adjacent to luggage room 6 at the rear of a vehicle in such a way as to be capable of being opened downward and closed. In this case, the luggage room 6 is provided with luggage room cover plates 16, 17, and the luggage room cover plates 16, 17 and the rear bumper 7 are rotatably mounted so that when the rear bumper 7 is opened downward, one end of each of the luggage room cover plates 16, 17 deploys backward of the vehicle body and serves as a tread board.
