The electronic labelling system allows electronic labels to be fitted to the edges of shelves in a large store. The system uses a rail (1) made of insulating plastic material comprising a base and upper and lower projecting edges. The label consists of a unit (20) which fits into the rail such that it is supported between the upper and lower projecting edges. The label is held in place by two projecting pegs - one at the bottom engaging a slot in the lower edge of the rail, and one at the top engaging a similar slot in the upper edge of the rail. The upper projecting peg is mounted on a block which can move within the label so that it can project or be withdrawn. A spring (28) biased the peg to the projecting position so that it locks the label in place. A magnetic device is used to displace the block and withdraw the peg, thus allowing the label to be removed from the rail. |
