PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prize griping device utilizing the resilient force of a spring as a gripping force and having convenience such that it can freely cope with variations in size and material or prizes. SOLUTION: This prize gripping device comprises a pair of pawls 10-1, 10-2 journaled by a pair of key shafts 12 held on a base 1, in such a manner that the pawls 10-1, 10-2 are freely rotatable in opening and closing directions, spiral springs 6-1, 6-2 for energizing the pair of pawls 10-1, 10-2 in their closing direction in such a way as to surround the key shafts 12, a pair of driven gears 5-1, 5-2 integrally held by the pair of pawls 10-1, 10-2 and engaging each other, a drive gear 3 engaging with one of the driven gears 5-1, 5-2, either via an intermediate gear or directly, a driving rotary machine 2 for driving and rotating the pair of pawls 10-1, 10-2 via the drive gear, a position detecting means integrally held by a detecting shaft gear 8 engaging the driven gear 5-2, and an original position setting means which is actuated at the maximum open position of the pawls 10-1, 10-2.
