PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalytic device which displays a photocatalytic action stably and with high efficiency through effectively using a light power from a light source. SOLUTION: This photocatalytic device comprises an optical guide path 2 formed of Ta2 and O5 on a transparent synthetic quartz (or glass) substrate 1 and a photocatalytic layer 3 formed of TiO2 on the optical waveguide path 2. The photocatalytic layer 3 is formed with a thickness of not more than 100 nm, e.g. 20 nm. In addition, the light emission side of a semiconductor laser 4 formed of GaN as a light source is connected to optical fiber bundles 5, which are disposed on a single row sheet 6 and tightly attached to the light incident end face of the optical waveguide path 2.
