PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling a background screen of a karaoke player is to provide an alive background screen to a user at the low cost. CONSTITUTION: An image signal storing unit(111) compresses and stores a movement image. A frame clock generating unit(112) generates a reference frame clock according to a drive signal(C) supplied from the outside, and generates a clock signal by variably changing the reference frame clock according to a control signal for determining the replay speed of the movement image stored in the image signal storing unit. A frame clock controlling unit(113) receives a tempo data(D1) and a time base data(D2) supplied from a central processing unit of a karaoke player for playing a song selected by a user, generate a control signal for changing the reference frame clock of the frame clock generating unit according to the selected song. A decoder(114) receives the compressed movement image signal, restores video signal and audio signal by decoding the compressed movement image signal according to the frame clock signal, and outputs the restored video signal according to a synchronization signal supplied from a monitor. An encoder(115) encodes the video signal so that it is displayed on a screen, and supplies the encoded video signal to a video processing unit(200). A D/A converter(116) converts the audio signal into an analog signal, and supplies it to an audio processing unit(300).
