摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the coupling device for optical transmission body which can couple optical transmission bodies having different core diameters with low loss and is easily adaptive to various core diameters. SOLUTION: The coupling core 30B of an optical fiber 30 for coupling has one end surface 32A formed corresponding to the core diameter D10 of the core 10B of an optical fiber 10 and the other end surface 32B formed corresponding to the core diameter D20 of the core 20B of an optical fiber 20. the core diameter of the coupling core 30B varies by steps in the optical transmission direction and has respective core-diameter parts 30B-1 to 30B-n of D30-1 (=D10), D30-2...D30-n (=D20) in order from the end surface 32A to the end surface 32B. The stepped variation in core diameter among the core-diameter parts is gentle enough to suppress light loss to be sufficiently small. When the end surfaces of the coupling optical fiber 30 are machined, the core-diameter parts do not vary and the necessary core diameters can easily be obtained.
