PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to stably produce a plastic optical fiber(POF) having an excellent light transmission characteristic by constituting a core of a polymer formed by polymerizing a monomer having the acid component content in the monomer of a specific value or below in a value in terms of methacrylic acid. SOLUTION: The core of the POF is composed of the polymer obtained by polymerizing the monomer having the acid component content at <=5 ppm in the value in terms of the methacrylic acid. the acid component refers to an organic acid and include, for example, formic acid, acetic acid, butyric acid, lactic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, phenol, benzoic acid, oxalic acid, etc. Bulk polymerization or solution polymerization is preferably used as a polymerization method. The solution used for the solution polymerization is preferably exemplified by benzene, toluene, etc., and is not restricted thereto. The method for removing the acid component from the monomer includes distillation refining, ion exchange treatment, neutralization reaction treatment, etc., and is not particularly limited thereto. A sheath material is not restricted at all, insofar as the material is a resin having the refractive index lower than the refractive index of the core material. |
