PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To aim at energy saving of an inverter by utilizing the pick-up function of a motor. SOLUTION: A controller 5 is constituted to switch a normal operation control section 6 and an intermittent operation control section 8 to each other by means of switches 10 and 11. The control section 8 reduces the energy consumption of an inverter through intermittent operation of the main circuit 1 of the inverter, by repeating the stoppage and restart by utilizing the picking-up function of a motor according to on/off parterres from pattern generators 12-14, which are switches to each other by means of a change-over switch 9. The pattern generator 12 generates a manually set on/off pattern, and the generator 13 generates an on/off pattern that is limited to the allowable speed fluctuation width of the motor. The pattern generator 14 generates such an on/off pattern, that is limited to the allowable speed fluctuation width of the motor and decided from the demand reduction rate of the inverter to the power source.
