PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recording material capable of producing a printing plate having clear contrast to the substrate. SOLUTION: The recording material has a substrate and a negative type radiation sensitive layer containing a diazonium salt, a metal-free coloring pigment dispersed in an organic polymeric binder, a transparent spacer pigment having >1.0 ml/g pore volume and the polymeric binder. The dispersion of the organic coloring pigment is carried out by milling the pigment together with the organic polymeric binder containing hydroxyl groups, part or all of which have reacted with a polycarboxylic acid anhydride in such a way that the acid value of the binder is adjusted to 20-200.
