PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent recorded and edited content from disappearing and to improve the reliability of a device by executing the updating operation of management information for the management region of a recorded medium when a reset operation is made for resetting. SOLUTION: When a resetting operation has been made, data other than U-TOC data retained in a buffer memory in an MD unit 22 is initialized. It is verified whether the U-TOC data retained in the buffer memory before the resetting operation has been updated or not. When it is judged that the U-TOC data has been updated, it is verified whether the U-TOC data is appropriate or not. When the check data is entirely extracted appropriately, it is regarded that the U-TOC data is appropriate and the U-TOC data at that time point is recorded at the control area of a disk. Then, when the writing of the U-TOC data has been completed, resetting processing is made.
