PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly evaluate the output characteristic of a magneto- resistive(MR) head by suppressing the noise by the magnetization of a magnetic shield. SOLUTION: A ferromagnetic material film is excited by the current impressed to a coil 32 from an exciting power source 33, by which a micro-exciting source 31 formed to a wire shape at the end edge of the ferromagnetic material film is placed on a jogging state 37 via a supporting member 36 and the magnetic head 34 is so arranged that the linear direction of the micro-exciting source 31 and a track width direction intersect orthogonally with each other. While the magnetic head 34 is moved to the micro-exciting source 31 in the track width direction at a micro-step, the output of the MR head by the magnetic charge impressed from the micro-exciting source 31 in the respective step positions (the respective points in the width direction of reproducing tracks) is measured by a preamplifier 41 and a spectrum analyzer 42, by which the noise of the magnetization exclusive of the MR section, such as the magnetic shield, is eliminated and the output is recorded by a computer 40.
