PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clearly show the position of a character string image in a document image corresponding to a desired character string when the document image is filed and retrieved with the character string. SOLUTION: An original image is read and a character image inside a text area in the original image is recognized. Then, original image data provided by reading, a character code provided by recognition and the position information of the character image as a recognition object are stored. At the time of retrieval, a character string matched to an applied retrieval character string is found out and an image having the character string is displayed. At the same time, the relevant character string image part in the image to be displayed is displayed while being intensified.
