PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing system having a flexible constitution in which a system bus structural rule is established. SOLUTION: In this information processing system, an identification number for uniquely identifying each module having a bus master function is set in each module, and each module checks its own identification number after resets is released. A module 0 whose identification number 0 is transmits a response request to the other modules mounted on a system bus 1-1, and sets its own module as a bus master at the time of no response. The module 0 re-transmits the response request, and checks the state of the system bus 1-1 from the response, and compares that state with its own stored mounting state, and when they are coincident, the module 0 certifies its own module as a bus master. The module 0 transmits a bus master setting request 3-1 to the mounted modules of another system bus 1-2, and a module 5 which receives this request repeats processing similar to the processing of the module 0, and constructs the system bus 1-2. A non-bus master module monitors an operating state status, and when the bus master module breaks owe, this is switched.
