PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic measuring system capable of exactly measuring the passing speed of a vehicle by providing a measuring means for measuring the passing speed of the vehicle equipped with onboard device on the basis of a response signal received by a receiving means. SOLUTION: When an onboard device 4 loaded on a vehicle 3 to pass on a road receives a radio wave radiated by an antenna 11 of radio 1, the response signal containing a prescribed identification number is transmitted to road side radio 1. On the basis of the identification number contained in the received response signal, the road side radio 1 requests information for identifying the form of the vehicle of the onboard device 4 and the onboard device 4 transmits vehicle form information. An inquiry signal from the road side radio 1 is transmitted through the antenna 11 to a communication area 2. The onboard device 4 of the vehicle 3 passed through the communication area 2 continuously returns a response signal corresponding to this inquiry signal. Then, the road side radio 1 measures the number of times of response of the continuously received response signal received through the antenna 11 and measures the passing speed of that vehicle.
