PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly set a lockup member to a lockup state by increasing the engine speed, when a vehicle is in a coast state and a lockup demand state, and a lockup member is not set to the lockup state. SOLUTION: When a vehicle is in a coast state, the rotation speed of a pump impeller of a torque converter 10 is lower than the rotation speed of a turbine liner so that fluid pressure acting from an engagement side chamber to a lockup member is lower than the fluid pressure acting from a release side chamber to the lockup member. When a drain valve 22 is opened to set the lockup state to result in no lockup, it is so controlled that the rotation speed of an engine 2 is increased and the relative rotation speed of the pump impeller to the turbine liner is decreased. That is to say, the lockup solenoid 24 is energized to open the drain valve 22 and a fuel increase signal is sent to an engine control unit 32 to increase engine speed.
|
