PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve non-defective factor in a manufacturing process of a rear plate for a plasma display, by removing a phosphor layer using solvent from a substrate having the phosphor layer comprising at least phosphor powder and organic component on the substrate having a barrier rib. SOLUTION: A rear plate having a phosphor layer containing ethylcellulose as a binder is horizontally placed on a resin butt directing downward a phosphor-layer forming surface. At this time, an end of a substrate is fixed by a stainless steel support table to prevent the phosphor-layer forming surface of the substrate from coming into contact with the bottom of the butt. Ethyl acetate is gently poured into this until the phosphor-layer forming surface is soaked and is stood still for 30 minutes. Then, the substrate is pulled up, new ethyl acetate is poured on the entire substrate, and the substrate is dried at 80 deg.C for 20 minutes by a hot wind drying oven to remove the phosphor layer. Because the ethyl acetate does not affect glass or metal, a phosphor layer can be formed again on the substrate.
