PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve output density, discharge capacity and a cycle characteristic by bearing a negative electrode active material of Li metal or Li ions on mesocarbon microbeads each formed with a crystal group arranged in a layered form in a direction perpendicular to the diameter direction of spherical particles. SOLUTION: Since each crystal group of mesocarbon microbeads is arranged in a layered form in a direction perpendicular to the diameter direction of spherical particles, a lot of end faces of hexacarbon ring mesh planes constituting each of the crystal groups reside on a spherical surfece, so that Li can freely go in and out between the mesh planes through there. The mesh plane is a place where a battery reaction occurs, and increases a reaction area by the presence of many passages between the mesh planes, so that output density is increased. Discharge capacity per unit volume is increased as well. Additionally, a spherical carbon material has high physical stability and has sufficient durability even if an active material frequently goes in and out of a carbon layer, and thereby, the cycle characteristic of the battery is significantly improved. |
