PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relax restrictions concerning a recording operation work and improve the operability of a recorder. SOLUTION: Even if a recording medium is not at a recordable position, if only the recording medium is at a retractable position after a user operates a recording key, the recording medium is automatically transferred from the automatically retractable position to the recordable position to enable the start of recording. Data of a recording source after the recording key is operated are stored in a buffer memory and, when the recording medium is positioned at the recordable position and recording is started, the data stored in the buffer memory are read and recorded in the recording medium.
