Racemic complexes (I) of gadolinium with (1,4,7,10-tetra-azacyclododecane)-1,4,7,10-tetra-(2-glutaric) acid and their base salts, are new. R = phenyl or 1-8C alkyl (optionally hydroxylated), optionally interrupted by one or more phenyl, alkyl, oxy, amino, or amido optionally substituted by alkyl, with phenyl optionally substituted by OH, Br, Cl, I, 1-8C alkyl, 1-8C alkyleneoxy, NO2, NRxRy, NRxCORy, CONRxRy, COORx and Rx, Ry = H or 1-8C alkyl. An Independent claim is included for preparation of (I).
