PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a portable information processing system for which an operation mode suitable for each environment in a device with which a user is familiarized is automatically set and which executes information processing under the environment. SOLUTION: An the time of receiving environment identification(ID) signals generated from respective environment ID signal generation parts 11-1 to 11-n, an environment identification(ID) signal receiving part 21 outputs the environment ID signals. An environment ID part 22 actively identifies respective environments #1 to #n and outputs respective ID results as environment ID signals. An operation mode management part 23 receives the environment ID signals, judges respective environments #1 to #n from these environment ID signals, determines an operation mode corresponding to each judged result, and outputs the judged operation mode. An operation mode switching part 24 receives the operation mode, instructs an operation mode storing part 25 so as to transfer processing to an operation mode execution part 25-1 to 25-n for environments #1 to #n corresponding to the operation mode and switches a current operation mode to the selected operation mode.
