PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the sensitivity by reducing a load capacitance of signal lines in a solid-state image pickup element having passive type pixels. SOLUTION: In the solid-state image pickup element, a plurality of pixels 5 are arranged in a matrix shape, a plurality of vertical signal lines 6A, 6B connected to amplifier means 11, 15 are placed to each pixel column and pixels 5 in a different columnar direction in each pixel array at an interval of one or of a plurality are connected to each of the vertical signal lines 6A, 6B. Thus, the load capacitance of the signal lines (vertical or horizontal signal lines) can be reduced, output amplitude in the case of reading the same signal charge can be increased so as to enhance the S/N in the amplifier means connected to the signal lines.
