PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of an optical network unit. SOLUTION: The system for reducing the power consumption of an optical network unit where photoelectric conversion is applied to asynchronous transfer mode input/output cells, is provided with input detection means 2, 4 that detect an input signal from a terminal connected to the optical network unit to obtain a time when the optical network unit receives no input signal, a cell generating means 5 to insert dummy cells to adjust a transmission rate, and a cell interleaving means 6 that periodically interleaves the inserted dummy cells by the cell generating means when the input detection means confirm that no input signal is received for a prescribed time. |
