PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal generator for obtaining a new video wipe effect by including an input means for receiving a solid and a means for selectively impressing a first gain or a second gain to the solid dependently of a relation between the value of the solid and the value of a reference level for preparing a key signal. A comparator 140 of a gain stage 100 of this signal generator prepares a comparison signal 145 between solid 125 and a clip face 142, and a selector 150 selectively outputs the solid 125 to one output or the other output dependently of the comparison signal 145. A multiplier 300 adjusts the amplitude of the solid 125 and prepares a solid 127 dependently of a first gain K1, and a multiplier 310 adjusts the amplitude of the solid 125 and prepares a solid 129 dependently of a second gain K2. A connector connects the solids 127 and 129 in an OR way.
