摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lighting device and a liquid crystal projector capable of giving the function of efficiently making a polarizing direction uniform so that the luminous flux emitted from a light source can efficiently be used for a projection object with simple configuration. SOLUTION: These lighting device and liquid crystal projector can be actualized with simple configuration only by being equipped with an ordinary light source device B1 with a parabolic mirror 4, etc., for emitting nearly parallel luminous flux to a more incidence side than a polarizing conversion element C1 with good polarization conversion efficiency by making the nearly parallel luminous flux emitted by the light source device B1 on the polarizing conversion element C1 and making the polarizing direction uniform before the luminous flux is converged by a condenser lens 9 paired with the lens array 8 of what is called an integrator optical system D1 for reducing the divergency of a secondary light source image 10 as a virtual light source for irradiating the liquid crystal panel 1.
