PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head having a magnetic core consisting of single crystal ferrite, capable of preventing destruction due to deterioration and deterioration of strength at the time of forming a track width part even when the magnetic head has a large azimuth angle of a magnetic gap and a narrow track width. SOLUTION: On a sliding face 11, soft magnetic films 13a and 13b which hold a magnetic gap g therebetween and substrates 14a and 14b are mechanically worked linearly along a slide direction of a magnetic tape and a track end working grooves defining a track width Tw of the magnetic gap g are formed. A gap contacting face is a face inclined by the azimuth angleθfrom a (100) face of a signal crystal ferrite which constitute the substrate 14a and 14b, the sliding face 11 is a (110) face of the ferrite and the working direction of the track end working grooves generally coincides with the <100> direction which is perpendicular to a (100) face which is a cleavage face of the single crystal ferrite, and the deviation is controlled within 5 grade.
