PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical displacement detector the sensor head of which can be reduced further in size and thickness. SOLUTION: An optical encoder is provided with a reflection type scale 1 and a sensor head 2. The head 2 is provided with a lead frame 21, an LED chip 22 which is mounted on the frame 21 with its light emitting surface upward and projects light upon the scale 1, and a light receiving element chip 23 which is mounted on the frame 21 with its light receiving surface downward and receives reflected light from the scale 1. The head 2 is also provided with a transparent resin 24 which is molded so as to seal the LED chip 22 and light receiving element chip 23 mounted on the lead frame 21. The resin 24 has a projecting spherical surface 25 at a position deviated to the light receiving element chip 23 side from a point right above the LED chip 22 and a reflecting film 26 is formed on the spherical surface 25.
