PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heat accumulator in which the capacity of a hot region and a cold region can be altered quickly without supplying a significant thermal energy externally while accumulating heat and cold simultaneously. SOLUTION: Thermal insulation is imparted to the wall surface facing each region of a movable wall 2 for sectioning a thermal storage tank to be filled with a thermal storage material into a hot region and a cold region. Conduction holes 4a, 4b communicating with the respective regions provided on the wall surface are made through the movable wall 2 and a heat storage region 3 for taking in a part of the thermal storage material from these region is formed. A means for forming temperature hierarchy between heat and cold by suppressing convection of the thermal storage material flowing through the conduction holes is provided in the heat storage region 3.
