The present invention relates to treatment of diseases and disorders of the immune system comprising treatment of deficiencies within the immune defence system. The invention concerns preparation of a novel expression construct encoding human MBL, a novel recombinant preparation of human MBL with high similarity to natural human MBL and futhermore it comprises use of this compound in compositions, medicaments and in methods for treatment of conditions such as those related to immunosuppressive conditions and/or to conditions of MBL deficiencies including latent conditions. Conditions of deficiencies of Mannan-Binding Lectin (MBL) are associated with increased susceptibility to infections. In more particular, the invention concerns treatment of said conditions, including latent conditions, i.e. although there is no present need. The treatment is aimed at humans and at animals, in which the immune system appears to act similarly to the human immune system.
