Information system for a mobile user has an information source (110), a proxy server (120) for access to the information source and a wireless communication link to the proxy server. A mobile computer system is linked to the proxy server via the wireless communication link. The information can be translated into spoken form. The wireless link is of a format such as cellular digitized packet data. Independent claims are made for a hands-free and eyes-free communications link between a computer and a mobile user.
