A stringed musical instrument (10) having a body (12) and a neck (14) along which strings (16) are stretched. A spring-loaded clamping device (50) is provided for securing the neck (14) to the body (12) while permitting limited pivotal movement of the neck (14). The clamping device (50) includes one or more springs (62) arranged to provide a biasing force for urging the neck (14) toward a seating position, and a moveable adjustment member (68) arranged to oppose the biasing force of the springs (62) in order to cause the neck (14) to pivot to therby adjust the action of the instrument. An intonation adjustment mechanism (80) is also provided for adjusting the intonation of the instrument (10) which advantageously provides a firm, rigid and stable mounting of the neck (14) to the body (12).
